The site is situated off a secluded private road close to the town centre of Woodbridge, a market town in the county of Suffolk.
The brief was to significantly increase the family living space by building a single storey, rear extension attached to the existing kitchen.
The architectural design of the extension allows the existing and new spaces to flow seamlessly, but from an external appearance it is almost viewed as two distinct separate structures. The purpose being to retain the pleasing scale and proportions of the existing 1930s cottage and to allow the first floor bedroom windows to be unaffected by the addition.
The new L-shaped house footprint wraps around the cottage style garden which becomes an external room with access from both the new informal family space and the existing formal living room.
