The house, Brambletye, is located in the picturesque East Suffolk coastal village of Thorpeness. The house is situated within a conservation area and considered a property of historical and architectural significance.
It was originally designed in a Faux Tudor half-timbered style. Extensive dialogue and liaison with the East Suffolk planners and the Heritage department was essential in order to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution for both the client and the planning authorities.
The brief was to significantly increase the ground floor living space proportionately to the size of the house and serve the existing bedroom capacity with living spaces that reflect  modern standards of a family home.
The architectural design treats the extension as a contemporary addition, but reflects visually to the scale and character of the timber frame façade with the fenestration framing.
